WE ARE WORKMAN’S
The Workman’s Club has become a hub of creativity, art and social progress since we first opened our doors in 2010. Run by folks who are passionate about music, we welcome performers of all flavours - and we’ve seen a tonne of incredible performers pass through our doors and take to our stages over the last 9 years. While Ireland’s contribution to art and music across the world has always been phenomenal, there is a new buzz that has been steadily building over the course of the last year or so.
With this buzz of the new, exciting talent that hail from Ireland, we are excited to present to you the WE ARE Series, in partnership with Roe & Co Irish Whiskey. The WE ARE Series will celebrate the multiple, diverse music and art scenes that represent modern Ireland - and that pass through our club every week. Plus, to celebrate being in our tenth year, all standing shows will be just 10 euros!
We’ll collaborate and partner with different groups and curated gigs will allow labels, magazines, blogs and collectives to introduce their favourite acts to a wider audience. We’ll bring you talks and lectures, which will showcase new ideas and new ways of looking at the world. This is a chance to celebrate the uniqueness of our art scene, to help showcase something new and to bring something fresh to the scene.
We’ll have lots more to announce as a part of this series - but for now, check out the brilliant acts who will be joining us as a part of our brand new WE ARE Series…
THURSDAY 8 AUGUST AN ELECTRIC DREAM, A NIGHT CURATED BY OTHERKIN
Otherkin will be taking over the entirety of The Workman's Club on Thursday August 8th. This themed night will have a combination of Live Acts and DJs curated by the band and a one off performance where Otherkin will pay tribute to the electronic and industrial influences that have informed their new sound.
FRIDAY 9 AUGUST LETHAL DIALECT
One of Ireland’s premier rappers, Lethal Dialect has been dominating since his breakout LP in 2011. He kicked off the release of his record Hungry with us in May of last year - and his shows never disappoint.
SATURDAY 10 AUGUST Æ MAK
Aoife McCann (Æ MAK) writes songs and becomes them.
The all consuming energy of her performance enraptures the audience, primitive vocal rhythms and infectious vocal melodies sail a dark sea of electronica. As a visual artist, Æ MAK’s artistic vision comes to life in real time on stage, drawing elements of the themes and choreography from her self-directed music videos.
FRIDAY 16 AUGUST DELORENTOS
Delorentos’ determined rise has been a wonderful (and, at times, tortuous) chaos – break-ups, labels collapsing, reformations and critical awards, worldwide tours and packed houses from Mexico City to Moscow. In a world where so much emphasis is placed on “brand new” they continue to revel in writing albums and playing live shows that are ever more passionate, raw and exciting!
SATURDAY 17 AUGUST FEHDAH
We look forward to the swirling neo-soul melodies, contemporary electronic grooves and African rhythms of the awesome Fehdah. Her potent mix of West African music and contemporary electronic sounds makes for a rich, otherworldly sound, topped off by her gorgeous lyrics sung through English and Bambara.
THURSDAY 12 SEPTEMBER LAURA ELIZABETH HUGHES
Since the release of her debut EP in 2014, Laura Elizabeth Hughes has received widespread acclaim, establishing herself as a rising talent among a fresh new group of emerging Irish songwriters. Her unique voice has seen her build a substantial fan base from across the world with her YouTube channel amassing an astonishing 2.5 million views. In the past four years Laura has focused on honing that craft and getting involved with a number of different writing ventures, which have led to her being held in great esteem among the songwriting fraternity.
THURSDAY 17 OCTOBER DAVID O’DOHERTY
David O’Doherty demands that you unhook your mind and get comfortable. One of our favourite comedians OF ALL TIME, David O’Doherty will be at our place, singing songs played on a crappy keyboard from 1986 and we cannot wait.
