Raised in the West of Ireland, nestled somewhere along the Atlantic Way, Maria Kelly first picked up the guitar aged 10.

As an introspective teenager, she found difficulty in honest self-expression, but quickly found an outlet in her ability to put words to music. Taking influence from the likes of Daughter and Lisa Hannigan, a delicate alternative-folk sound was formed, layered with deeply personal, humanising experiences.

In 2015, Maria began working with Berlin-based producer Matt Harris (Veta Records, HAVVK)‘Stitches’ was released the following year, praised by the 405, and quickly named one of ‘The 50 Best Tracks of 2016’ in The Irish Times.

A number of singles followed, accompanied by shows across Europe supporting the likes of KT Tunstall, James Vincent McMorrow, and Paul Noonan (Bell X1). Maria’s work continued to gain momentum, rallying support from Wonderland, Mahogany and The Line Of Best Fit along the way.

In June of this year, Maria relocated to Berlin, inspiring her latest release ‘notes to self’. The four-track EP is a heartbreakingly unassuming collection of songs exploring themes of leaving home and finding familiarity from within, even if that can sometimes be an uncomfortable thing to do.

The four-track premiered on Nialler9, described as ‘poignant folk music at its very best’, while the 405 called it ‘a thing of genuine beauty.’  The debut ‘june’ continues to maintain a spot on the ‘Fresh Folk’ and ‘Your Coffee Break’ Spotify playlists, with ‘august’ entering ‘New Music Friday’ soon after. The EP was released in full on December 7th on Veta Records, followed by Maria’s biggest shows of the year – supporting the incredible Villagers at two sold-out Irish dates.

This March, Maria embarks on her first ever headline tour in Dublin, Galway, Cork and Limerick.
