Estonian dream-poppers ‘Pia Fraus’ formed in 1998 by six art school students. Since then they released five studio albums and a handful of EP’s on various record labels worldwide. Pia Fraus have worked together with Norman Blake from Teenage Fanclub, who produced their album ´After Summer´ back in 2008. Also collaborated with German shoegaze/ambient wizzard Ulrich Schnauss through various projects. Band been remixed by artists like Teenage Fanclub, Future Pilot AKA, Airiel, Mahogany, Lightships, Bill Well, International Airport etc.
After a short break, they are back with the new album "Field Ceremony" and touring the world on 2018.
At once uplifting and otherworldly, the music of Ulrich Schnauss combines multilayered synthesizers with beats and ethereal vocals, serving as an aural escape route from the trappings of reality. As Schnauss explains, ‘I’ve always used making and listening to music as a way to escape – putting on headphones is a way to leave reality behind for a while, reminding yourself why it still makes sense to carry on.’
Aside from releases under his own moniker, Schnauss also joined german electronica legends Tangerine Dream in 2014. Regularly enlisted as a mixer, remixer, producer and artist in his own right, Ulrich Schnauss may use music as a way to escape, but today he seems firmly rooted in the business, albeit constantly pushing against its staid sonic boundaries. Born in 1977 in Kiel, Germany – a post-industrial seaport at the Baltic – Schnauss began improvising chord changes on an old piano in his parents’ flat; a process which remains the backbone of his songwriting to this day. Once settled on a basic chord structure, Schnauss combines programmed synths with layered basslines and rhythms, to consciously adorn each piece with certain emotions and textures.
Mark Peters is a musician, songwriter and producer who has mainly created music for the band Engineers. He has also collaborated with the electronic musician Ulrich Schnauss on two albums; Underrated Silence and Tomorrow Is Another Day, before releasing collaborations with Elliot Ireland, formerly of the British band Shaft, and Salt Rush (with former Engineers member Matthew Linley and vocalist Maud Waret).
In 2008, Peters briefly played bass in the live band for Sarabeth Tucek, who was also signed to The Echo Label.
In December 2017, Peters released his debut solo album, Innerland, followed by a cover version of the popular Christmas carol "Silent Night". Schnauss and Peters have also collaborated on a remix of the track "Falling in Swirls" by Helios, "Keep it Softcore" by Naked Lunch, "The Wind Was Playing with My Hair" by Rainbirds and also contributed score to the film Kaboom by Gregg Araki. The film also features "Clean Coloured Wire" from Three Fact Fader by Engineers.
